Case study: Empordàlia, an association of small wine and oil producers
Location: Ctra. de Roses s/n, 17494 Pau, Spain
Empordàlia is a group of small producers of the Empordà region. This group was born from the union of the co-operative of cellars from Pau, Roses and Vilajuïga (three small villages from the Empordà region). The first co-operative that was founded was in Vilajuïga in 1947, followed by the one in Pau in 1961 that joined the one in Roses.
The main aim is to offer a quality product reflecting the personality of this region, touched by the North Wind (tramuntan) and the special landscape (sea and mountains). The offer two products, wine and oil, both clearly related to the region and a fundamental part of the Mediterranean diet. Another goal is to preserve tradition, in the sense that the most part of the producers come from families that have worked in wine and oil since several generations.
The co-operative offer different possibilities for the visit: guided tours, wine and oil tasting, space renting for conventions or events… and other activities such as gastronomic meals, walking among the wines, kayak, etc.
In order to improve the quality of the visits; the association involved actively in this project. At this moment, after visiting the facilities with a deaf and blind people in order to identify the specific need, special training will be done.
