Sensory Impairment Awareness Training at Sheffield Manor Lodge

Last week, we carried out a sensory impairment awareness training session with staff and volunteers of Sheffield Manor Lodge. The participant learnt about the different needs of customers with visual and hearing impairment and how to provide better, more accessible and inclusive customer service, focusing on customer welcoming, serving refreshments and guided tours.

Participants commented that they learnt
“a number of techniques for positive welcome and engagement for people with hearing and visual    impairment”
“a simple ‘Can I help you?’ can go a long way”
“the ignorance of invisible disability”
“become more aware of disabled people’s needs”
For more information about the training, please contact Dr Sun Kim (Seonyoung.Kim@shu.ac.uk).
