Inter organised a training session in the Bakery Museum (Bakkerijmuseum) in Veurne, on 18 April 2017. The focus of the conference was accessibility of museums and exhibitions. Personnel of the Bakery Museum and Bruges Beer Museum interacted with two experts by experience (a blind and a deaf person).
During the first part, Herman Caulier (Blindenzorg; a blind person) and Filip Verstraete (Fevlado; a deaf person) shared their experiences about visiting museums with a sensory impairment. They gave insight in their needs and provided the audience with useful tips and tricks.
Before lunch, we visited the museum with the focus on sensory impairment. Some participants wore distorted glasses to mimick visual impairment.
In the afternoon, Bart Vermandere (Inter; architect – accessibility expert) gave a lecture on universal design and how to integrate accessibility in museums.
The reactions were positive. You can find the presentation on the Training Sessions page.
